| 7 | Jan van Goyen präsentiert hier einen Blick auf die am Rhein gelegene Stadt Arnheim. Der wolkenreiche Himmel bestimmt mehr als die Hälfte des Gemäldes. Die niedrig gewählte Horizontlinie wird nur von wenigen Bildelementen überschnitten. Geschickt erzielt Van Goyen hier mittels verschiedener Lichteffekte eine beeindruckende Tiefenwirkung des Raumes: Auf die dunkle Vordergrundzone folgt ein hell beleuchteter Streifen mit Fuhrwerk. Die vier Kirchen, darunter prominent im Zentrum die Grote Kerk, legt er im Mittelgrund wiederum dunkler an. Der sich daran anschließende helle Flusslauf, vor dem sich eine Windmühle abzeichnet, zieht den Blick schließlich weit in die Ferne.
